I wonder if it's really as easy as giving feedstock to the algae and it "poops" a diesel equivalent.

In the algae to biodiesel process, oil extraction is a large hurdle, then it still needs to be processed into fuel. If this variation of E Coli can ferment into a biodiesel, that would be incredible.
