It`s probably your neutral safety switch on the transmission. or it could be your shifter bushings are gone creating slop in the shift rod.

on the pass. inner fender near the battery is a small black box with some wires. pull the cover up and there are 3 screws. short across 2 of them and the engine will start. on my car it is the 2 forward screws.

place shifter in park, turn key for glow plugs. I use a pair of needle nose.

I only had to do this when my NSW was acting a couple times.
