Well we fixed the pump....apparently while sitting around for 10 days while off the car, the ancient oil (it was pretty viscous when we (Royal We..I didn't do a thing) pulled the pump)....must have set up like glue and locked the vanes in the retracted position...amazingly they stayed there even though I took the engine to redline a few times...must have been really stuck...an hour soaking in a solvent and they could be pried free..cleaned the pump barrel and the vanes, re-assembled, and it now works like new.
