scratched paint
Holson,
Sorry for your car.
There is a way to fix it. Goes like this.
1. Get a spraycan of lacquer that matches your car. If you don't have one contact, www.themotorcompany.com (610-588-7355)
Give them the color code from the front crossmember in front of the radiator. Tell them that you want a lacquer as they call their lacquer something else.
When you get it, you need to do this. Go to your local auto paint store and get the follwoing.
1. A grease and silicone remover.
2. Several finer and finer grades of wet and dry sandpaper, starting with 600 and going up to 1500.
3. Get a liquid swirl remover polish.
Wipe down the scratch area with the degreaser.
using a very fine brush, spray some of the paint into a small container and paint it with the brush into the scratch. Don't worry if you get a little on the surrounding paint.
Keep adding brushed paint until the surface of the paint in the scratch is higher than the surrounding paint.
Once it's higher use the wet 600 to very lightly sand the higher paint down. Try not to hit the surrounding paint any more than necessary. Work through the finer papers until you bring the scratch area down to the original paint with the wet 1500.
Then use a very soft cloth, such as terry cloth to polish out the tiny scratches left by the 1500 with the swirl remover liquid.
Take your time, it works and if you make a mistake just start over. Lacquer can make anyone look like a pro. When you're finished, only you will know it ever happened.
Let me know how it works out, I love coupes.
