Thanks for the input thus far. Here's a little more background that might help. Car is a 2.8 model with 172,000 miles. I have had this problem for months now trying to sort it out. Besides this problem it started running rough and the mechanic found a bad coil and replaced it. Car was smooth as silk after that except for when it dies. Typically this happens half a dozen times every 100 miles. One time when it was about 110F outside it died 7 times in as many miles on the freeway. First I would pull over and put it in park and it would start right up. The hotter it got the harder to start. Sometimes it would take a dozen cranks to catch. Now with the new harness it's back to starting right up after dying. The mechanic listened to the fuel pump and said it sounded ok to him. SOP is driving down the freeway at 70 and then engine just quits and tach immediately drops to zero. No warning, no coughing, no nothing, just quits. Thanks again.
