To start.

The first thing you should do is check the fuses.

Look at the appropriate fuse diagram for your car here: (I suspect the 85 500SEC euro may be closest?)

Clean the ends of both fuses and the contacts and rotate the fuses around

Actually it might even be a better idea, since your car is 25 years old, to clean all the contacts and holders and simply replace ALL fuses now are ready to be replaced after that time.

So far as the trunk carpet, try the junk yards, and get one out of any W126, and if that does not work, call the parts department of the Mercedes Benz classic center in Irvine CALIF and order one in your color.

(949) 598-4848 <--------- That is the phone number of an ACTUAL person there in the Parts Department down there, so you won't be transferred all around.

To protect the trunk carpet, back in about 1997 a guy called Randy, in near San Diego, sold fitted nice rubber trunk mats for these cars for about $30 and I got one for my 560SEC.

The address I had for it on the receipt was:

Dealer Gifts Inc.
POB 460836
Escondido, CA. 92046

That may or may not be good contact information, today, as I have no website or phone number. This was in early 1999 when not too much was on the Internet yet.

But the mat still is clean and good after these many years
