hey guys .. i just bought this car from oregon, and drove home to los angeles. when i got it from there the engine was making noise like clapping noise from the top section, i took a chance and drove it home .. a 8 hour drive. the car drove perfect, it just had that clapping noise. so heres the deal.. the motor had been previously redone, about 20k ago. now we opened up the valve cover did a valve adjustment,. those were fine, and realized that the chain guide is cracked on the top section, right by the tensioner, so we took out the tensioner, and the screw that bolts on to the block, its a pin on that screw, its the banana shaped guide, we cant get that damn thing out... we have a new one, and looks like its suppose to come right out after taking out the tensioner, how do i take this thing out,, and do you think the noise couldve been from that? please advise asap.. thanks. oh its a 1982 300td. wagon.
