I'm afraid you are taking this too seriously.
While what you say about the current draw is true, if, however, the car requires only a fingertip movement of the shifter to engage the NSS, that is no big deal. A more serious issue should obviously be addressed, but in my case it is not a serious issue.
(It's just a car, after all. )

My preference is to do it corrctly from the get-go and to pass that info along in my diagnostic postings. To assume/state a mal-adjusted NSS, be it new or old, will not give you trouble is foolish info to be passing on.[/QUOT
