Then there are the law firms trolling ceaselessly on TV and radio. I would agree with the proposition that if the threat of lawsuits was not present that the drilling companies would be far less concerned for the welfare of the crew.

But golly, this day-and-night ambulance chasing doesn't instill confidence in law, either.

Drilling is inherently dangerous. Folks are very well paid for the risk and there's always a line at the employment window.
