Hen's tooth 85 W123 49 State With a California Vacuum System
When I got my 85 W123 a couple of years ago we were trying to sort out many things that were neglected, improperly hooked up, and broken. One of the things which needed attention was the mal functioning vacuum system.
Since my car was built 10/31/84, we get a trick or treat now and again when we go at it. This time it was how the vacuum system was routed. It had more hoses and connections than an 85 - 49 state set up, but didn't have the trap oxidizer and the air cleaner cannister next to the radiator. Instead it had a California vacuum system with a 49 state (it came from Texas) air cleaner and no trap ox.
I suppose usually that the 49 state cars had the 49 state set-up, but not my Hen's tooth... So when you check out the 85 vacuum diagrams, compare the bits and pieces from the diagram to what is actually on your car to make sure you have the right diagram for your car... In my case it was a California vacuum diagram and very different from a 49 state set up. Oh yeah, the car works great in spite of being weird.
