The procedure is subject to creativity.

First thing to do is remove the oil feed line. It attaches to the block under the turbo, somewhere along the bottom of the exhaust manifold or behind the water pump (I get .96 and .971 mixed up) and to the top of the turbo. Wiggle it free and keep it in a safe place for the rest of the job.

Remove the heat shield between the air cleaner and the turbo for better access.

Remove the bolts holding the turbo to the lower bracket. Leave the lower bracket in place for support for now. It might have to come out later if you can't wiggle the turbo out when everything else is disconnected.

Remove the crossover pipe. The gasket between the crossover pipe and the intake manifold can be reused but it likes to slip into the gap between the block and the IP as soon as you remove the bolts holding the crossover pipe to the intake manifold. Be ready to catch it.

Disconnect the EGR feed from the turbo feed pipe. Disconnecting the EGR valve from the mixing pipe might call for a new gasket so no need to mess with it.

There are 3 bolts holding the mixing pipe to the head. I'm not sure if they're accessible at this point. The bottom ones are difficult to reach in any circumstance. Note which bolt goes where because they're of different lengths.

Remove the exhaust feed pipe. I believe it's 4 nuts into the turbo and 4 nuts into the exhaust manifold. It might take some whacking with a hammer to work it loose after the bolts are off.

Remove the three nuts holding the downpipe to the turbo. One is accessible from the top, one is accessible from the bottom, one is difficult either way.

There's a bracket holding the back of the turbo to the exhaust manifold. It's a tight bracket with stud ends just about tip to tip. I forget if it's easier to leave the bracket on the engine or leave it attached to the turbo. You'll figure it out.

At that point the turbo should lift off the lower bracket and the drain pipe into the sump.

I skipped the soft stuff like the turbo intake hose and vacuum hoses. It's been a couple of years since I did this so I probably missed some key points. You're working with metal parts near the alternator so disconnecting the battery is good insurance.

This is a good time to work on the thermostat and water pump if you've been putting it off.
