You have to consider where you're wearing the costume. Depending on the crowd, a lot of them don't get the anime costumes even if they're well done and it'll be a major let-down because nobody knows who you are.
On the other hand, if it is an anime friendly crowd, Mustang is a very popular character and you'll get a lot of attention from the girls...

Yeah a couple of people did Mustang at the convention and I gotta say it was a very cool costume. Still most people wouldn't have a clue, save that one for next years event

SG1 also wouldn't be too hard to pull of and technically Atlantis would be even easier. If your going to get a vest/harness get one that you can use to do work as well.
