FYI...the graining of the steel is done with course 3M Scotchbrite pads. i believe they are light brown in color. The hard part is keeping the grain straight!

Scotch brite 7446 pads.. I have 3
those are used for blending the grain.. cleaning etc..
graining is done by a special tool that spins at 1000 rpms and no higher with a flapper wheel and 80 grit paper.. One just went for $700 on ebay
