This is one of those things that has been discussed manyt imes before.

Some mechanics say don't change it, some say do it.

Its a tough call. I would suggest you make sure the mechanic is a mercedes specialist. I don't take my car to any mechanic other than my mercedes independent, who only works on mercedes and has done so for 30 + years.
