Even with the "good" 3M adhesive, it's absolutely critical to follow the instructions with contact cement, like: temperature, spray BOTH surfaces at the right distance AFTER shaking the can thoroughly, and WAIT the recommended time both to apply and to drive, the former being extremely important.
I hope you've been masking/covering the heck out of everything. This is VERY MESSY and very risky to remove from paint.
P.S. Are you going to do the "rear" hood seal also? I must be one of the only people who do this one!
