My local locksmith quoted $50 per key to copy my w124 keys - he also pointed out that the ignition key I had was brass, and the cylinder was a cheapie.

He recommended getting a new cylinder and an additional key from a dealer, instead of having him make duplicates. Turn around time on the order was two days. Total cost was $110 + tax.

[And a real oddity, checking the car's service history showed one outstanding recall [a bushing for the throttle linkage]. I will probably have that done next week]
