I have a '97 which should be pretty close....
There are no screws to remove. There are two little plastic latches up inside of the front (closest to the passenger) side of the filter's frame. You should see a square hole to the right and left of center. You have to stick a screwdriver in there and push the latches sideways to disengage them. Then you have to pull down on the front slightly and wiggle/twist the frame around to get it out.
Pay close attention to the frame's orientation and especially the way it goes over/under the various bits of carpet and side panels. It will make re-installation much easier.
