W124 cars have a switch at all three key positions (driver and passenger doors, trunk or tailgate) to operate the pump that works the vacuum locks. The remote needs to be wired to mimic one of those switches. Should be easy, all you need is the receiver and the keychain remote.

Remote start of a diesel is a larger challenge – most are made for gassers. It's possible that someone sells one made for the job or you could modify one to do what you want.
