A Toyota Camry wagon just might be the ugliest wagon ever produced. Just an awful looking car.
If I was looking for something with your criteria I would probably focus on a Honda Element or the Toyota Matrix. Maintenance on both would be almost non-existent.
Another member of the 240 Volvo family is also a good choice, and you know you are safe.
