On the 300SE, (also a w126) it does indeed connect to the intake manifold near the rear of the engine. There is rubber elbow connector fitted to the nipple on the manifold, and that connects to a hard plastic vacuum hose which runs down the driver's side of the engine and along the transmission to the vacuum modulator.
