Service records are of the utmost importance when considering a used MB. I would also suggest a pre-purchase inspection. I found it very helpful before I bought mine. But, the PPI doesn't substitute for good service history.

Be sure that the harmonic balancer has been changed out. It was a service recall, so it should have been done. If the original one is on there, I would get it changed ASAP ... lots of horror threads on here about bad harmonic balancers literally destroying the front end of the car.

Look for signs of rusting - excessive rusting is not good. Mine had some spots, which for a 10 year-old car is normal, but big spots would make me a bit leary.

Mine's been great since I've gotten it (I'm knocking on the fake wood desk) - 1.2k and no issues to-date.
