Nah, you're hardly an idiot. You fall into the category of a trusting fellow who believes the word of others. We all start that way..........when a person tells us that they are going to do a specific thing.........we believe it.

As we get older, we realize that the fundamental way of the world is increasing entropy.........whether it be personal, financial, or by any other measure you wish to address.

What do I mean by this?

Lacking very specific controls and planning, most people will end up in a bad way financially............most businesses will find a way to fail or seriously jeopardize the possibility of ongoing success.

So, in life, one must gain the knowledge that money will slip through the fingers of most people with nary a glimpse of where it went. To keep the money that you have requires knowledge, distrust, and planning.

Here's what I've learned, also by the school of hard knocks:

1) If you choose to lend a person money without any paperwork, just consider it a gift.

2) If you choose to lend a person money with a note, you've got to ask yourself a question? Why is this person borrowing from me rather than a bank? You already know the answer to the question and it forces you to think again whether the investment is at risk. A 20% return is terrific........but, what if your entire principal disappears?

3) If you choose to lend serious money, find a way to get security for it. I've got a serious note outstanding at 10% and it's secured by a first mortgage on the building used as collateral for the loan.

In your present situation, you'll need to get an attorney involved to determine if any of your money is recoverable. Without a note, it's a dicey situation.

I did attempt to find your age in post but failed to do so. You do sound like a very capable fellow who has plenty of good years ahead of him. Therefore, I'd encourage you to get the hell out of that POS company ASAP for your own psyche. You'll never recover or look forward if you continue to work for those *******s.

Good luck, my friend..........we've all made some very stupid financial decisions in our lives (did I mention my 10,000 shares of MCI stock)...........but, if we have our health (which I'm slowly losing).........it's possible to look forward to the future.
