The general concensus from the few lawyers that i've talked to has been the same regarding the lack of a note. You've got everything ahead of you. At 23 I was a drunk, irresponsible, college flunky who didn't give a crap about anything, nevermind my finances (as is well known).
You're light years ahead of where I was, keep your chin up. A lot of these "sly" guys aren't nearly as sly as they think they are and get tripped up eventually.
