That is a terrible story and I feel very badly for you.

The first thing I would do is find another job. You are a dream employee and will probably have no trouble even in this economy finding work. Second would be to cut off all contact with these people except through a lawyer.

What you have done is not through stupidity but through naieve' and through trusting people you thought were your superiors in experience.

Now you have learned your lesson and the best thing is to try to move on.
Go back to school and get away from this situation

I also did a lot of side work for my boss when I was younger and got stiffed on it. I learned right away that if it is not in your job description, it does not get done.
