do you need an alternator?

Hey guys,

Had a problem with dimming lights on the left side of the dash. They would dim a bit (battery light) when the car had been running for a while. Anyway, the horror story starts with me buying an alternator from Ebay. Then deciding that I don't want to do the job myself and taking it to my indy guy. He states that the problem might be the belts. Ok, change the belts. Nope, that wasn't the problem. Ok, change the alternator and with the one I bought. Ok, but your alternator isn't the correct one!..sh-----t!!..anyway, at this point I have an extra alternator that someone can have. Thought I would pass the Merc love around to someone who needs it. I attached pics of the alternator, the front looks similar to all W123s' and you would mount your own pulley. The back looks a bit different than it's supposed to. I would think the voltage regulator is mounted inside. Check it out and let me know, pay attention to the backside of the alternator.
