disconnect pushrods
To disconnect the linkage on the acceleraor just insert a flat bladed screwdriver between the link with the ball socket and the arm and twist the screwdriver which will pop off the link. Sometimes you need a pair of pliers to snap a stiff one back on. Mercedes recommends putting grease on these points.
I don't have the cruise control falderol on my car since I'm only 64 and can still press the accelerator, but I don't think there are wires going in there. I believe you're looking at vacuum lines. To see what the lines do, if I'm correct, check the little diagram on the cross member in front of the radiator.
Hope this helps.
