I'm 48 years old and have been battling lower back pain since March. Went the chiro (manipulation) -> general practitioner (meds) -> neuro surgeon (meds) -> pain specialist (injection) -> physical therapy route.
I had a cortisone injection in my SI joint about 4 weeks ago followed by two weeks of pretty intensive core strength and flexibilty PT. For the first time in 8 months, I can walk upright and wrestle with my kid.
My pain specialist put me on a fluorscope table, administered a local then immediately hit me with the larger cortisone needle before the local had time to take effect. It hurt, but it was worth it. If I ever need another, I will insist on some time between the local and the cortisone.
