You might be able to modify the W123 cluster to accept just the outside temp display at the bottom.

Best bet would be to find a W126 in the junkyard and strip the display, wiring and the sensor. The display is long enough so that it reached through the cluster. It also has a curve in it to accommodate the cluster shape.
