I finished pulling the wiring harness out today. I got the entire thing out without cutting a single wire! The power window harness is actually separate except where it screws in the back of the fuse panel and connects to one of the relays. That will make putting power windows in the 280SL all the easier. I also removed the wiper connections and evaporator/heater core element - that is a real pain to remove.
Pretty much the only things still on the car that are not welded to it, and which I will shortly remove, are:
Windshield
Side windows and motors
Engine (and things attached to it)
Transmission
Steering box
Steering shaft attached to the box (but not the car)
Horns
front sub-frame and sway bar
hard top
fuel and brake lines
That's it! I have found the footprint for an intact car is much smaller than one disassembled. I have parts stashed all over.
Once I take all the rest off I'll start cutting the metal I need. I am amazed at how solidly these cars are constructed.
I will also post pictures soon.
