The wires do not usually go bad because they are copper core. I have seen them last 20 years or so. Many shops will sell entire wire sets when only one resistor tip is needed. I do think the engine needs the cap and rotor on occasion. Good luck. Also think the plugs are a good idea. Mercedes rec. every 15K miles on this model.
