When I replaced my starter, I can remember that I was too lazy to disconnect the battery because I didn't want to have to reset the CD player code; so, I remember one of the hot wires on the starter hitting a ground and sparking all over the place. I was thinking that I was lucky I got away without any damage.
Do you think you could have shorted something out when you replaced the starter? There are a few AC Delco fuses in the base module. I don't know if they would cause your problem, but it's cheap to replace them. They are right under the black lid where it says "battery in trunk."
