Yes. I did it as part of my John Muir Trail Tree Hugger Granola summer of ’01. Very nice climb. You can hook up with an outfitter if you can’t get a permit to fit your time slot.
I’ve done about 60% of the Pacific Crest Trail over two summers. The Goat Rocks over in WA are a “two boot hoot”. Recommend it as well if you're not into climbing at altitude (VCA). Vibram, I think still runs their free sole replacement program, if so be sure to sign up for that before you go. Just need to keep a journal for them and send them either your worn boots or replaced soles for a free set. I think Asolo has a similar replacement program/sponsorship as well.
I'm thinking of the upper Appalachian Trail for ’09 or ‘10. Might try to run (jog) the Little Devils Stairs and Buzzard Rocks in Typhoon XCRs if I can get someone to “haul-ahead” for me. I’ve heard a few have done that just for an added challenge. Anyone here with time on (near) the AT ??
