I have no understanding of the cost of this idea....so its possible it might not pencil out.
This is close to health care coverage. I think health care insurance is the prime reason many and the Big 3 are at a severe dissadvantage with Foriegn competition. It's nothing new, but has gotten progressivly worse. This is also one of the reasons to keep the Big 3 afloat. They can pay for the cost of retirees and health care cost, also the number of unemployeed workers. So the 15 to 30 billion might be a bargain.
I get a kick out of the Congressional hearings on this. I wish one of the CEOs would go all Olly North on one of the pompous congressman. Ask them how many times they used a private jet to who knows where. Why didn't they fly coach. How did they vote on giving all that money to the banks, with no strings. Did they get to party with the banks CEOs with all that money?
I'm not thrilled with this 'loan'. Both managment and Union (UAW) bear some responsibility. To say that the union noly got what it asked and managment gave it to them, is the same as house buyers taking laons they could never pay back.
