Request that he provide you that information as a condition of the sale. From your description I get the felling the seller is misrepresenting the facts about this car. Maybe it's just me, but this transaction seems odd ... trading a 1996 Jeep junker plus $1,500 for a reasonably well-maintained 1995 E320.
