My problem was the wrong motor oil.

I was using Motorcraft 15W40 and it was just too thick for the cold weather.

I just changed it to Rotella Synthetic 5W40 and it started perfectly in 20F weather.

Last year I used regular 10W40 but I noticed that it isn't rated for diesel so I went for the synthetic.

Oil matters....go figure.
