How to brighten instrument cluster or how to make cool instrument dials

I have been reading several posts about people complaining how dim instrument cluster looks at night. Some suggestions have been to change the bulbs because as the filament burns, it leaves a film on the glass of the bulb. Some people have inserted high intensity LEDs to supplement the bulbs.

I think that the original bulbs provide sufficient illumination. The problem is with the instrument faces which are black. The black finish absorbs much of the light. If the instrument faces were white, the instruments would appear to be very bright.

An easy solution would be to go to Performance Parts and order a white face gauge kit for $179. Sounds like a lot of money, and who would want to wait? I have a better idea.

I would remove the instrument faces from the cluster and scan them into a scanner. This is better than creating from scratch because the scale and graphics would be preserved. Then, I would have Photoshop do some magic. I would invert the image so that the black will become white. Then, I would adjust the rest of the colors so they would look nice.

Using photo paper, I would have an inkjet printer print out the gauge faces. Finally, I would cut out the faces and glue them to the old faces.

Any one do this? Any suggestions?
