Replace the thermostat if not done with HG & water pump. How old is the radiator? Flush it recently?
The water pump was replaced 18 months back (roughly 8-10K miles back) by my MB indie mechanic. He used the proper MB coolant as I recall having the discussion with him. Radiator was flushed at that time but may be original (not sure) / but I know it's not leaking. The coolant level hasn't really moved - it's at about half way up in the plastic overflow tank.

The head gasket job was done a little more than 2 years ago by the same mechanic.

Someone else suggested it could be the fan clutch. Is there a way for me to test this theory or should I just bring it in to the shop?

thanks,
Michael
