There was no Arab section of the country. 1)The arabs were throughout the region, and 2)there wasn't a country. The europeans really screwed the pooch after WWI and never made definitive decisions or even certain border lines. The whole plot of land was practically a no man's land.
We both agreed it was a messed up situation. The war in 48 started because the English abandoned the region to the fates before decisions could be reached as to who got what - the same thing they didn't decide after WWI. Jews came and took the land. They won.
The important point here is, if you share the wealth, there is less reason for fighting. If you show no mercy, the cornered dog will fight. You better be willing to commit genocide if you're going to corner the whole group. I want to mix another metaphor, but I can't think of any.
