My favorite machinist talked to the guys who do the motors for Adsit. They are in Muncie, not that far from here. He said that they don't replace the sleeves but simply bore it out and install new pistons. This was a few years back so its possible that thats not what they are doing now in any case.
If thats the only issue, you probably will get good service from a motor, it just won't be done the way mb does it and it probably won't last 500k til the next time it needs rebuilding....maybe only 325!
you'll probably be just fine.
In this case I would not look a gift horse in the mouth, Tell your boss thanks a million and go on down the road.
