Hi,
So I have this fantasy of selling my 2001 C240 and buying a 300D. I've got a G-Wagen with a swapped in OM617A so my logic is to keep all my vehicles running on the same drivetrain- an instant backup should something fail.
The other motivator is that the newer Benz's are so full of electronic junk, I replaced the battery at one point and managed to blow up an $800 computer. When the computer was blown, the car would move but was unsafe... I didn't have turn signals or windshield wipers.
I like the snob appeal of having a relatively new MB, but the classic lines and beauty of a well kept 300D can't be beat. On the other hand, I'm in business and sometimes having a decent Mercedes shows that at least I had the common sense to make some money in my career.
So my question is, what is life like with a 300D as a daily driver? Is it a good experience, or is there so much wrenching involved that its a PITA? How many of you would happily trade to a newer Mercedes, and how many of you wouldn't even consider it? (they don't make em like they used to...)
Cheers,
Michael
