This seems to be even more evident on gasser MBs.....my 300E will "disappear" half a quart pretty quickly when topped to the max mark, but then it seems to settle in around halfway or just below half way between min/max on the stick, and stays there....so thats where I've been topping it too. My 300SD holds the level fine at just below max. Same for the other diesels.....
