Like everybody else I would say get the best car you can afford. GO South and get one with no rust. I personally like the 603 engine better than the 617 in terms of smoothness and power. I had a 300SD but like my SDL a lot more. I was a little leery of buying it as it had an airbag, ABS, memory seats and the rudimentary electronic idle control, but it has been reliable. I would not want a car that is so dependent on it's electrical system that it will not run without it. I have had enough computer issues on the Suburban and the BMW to make me shy away from cars with electronic fuel injection.That includes the OM606 and later engines.
