I'm sorry, I mis-read your question. You are saying that you replaced your alternator and found that the old one had a burned wire, and that the ABS light came on. I don't know why the wire would burn.
But it is common for alternators to fail and not get a warning light. As long as the alternator does not supply ground to the light, the light stays off. This can happen even when the alternator is not supplying enough output to charge the battery. I have had two alternators fail this way. The ABS light will come on if the relay that powers the ABS determines that there is not enough voltage for the system to function. This is exactly what happened on my 1984 280SL. First the ABS light came on, then the radio cut out, then the engine died. No battery light at all!
