i'm attaching a diagram highlighting that bolt that came outta the starter...unless someone has ideas otherwise, i think i'll have to remove the starter to replace it...it seems to hold something that in place that i need to see up close and personal to get right. looks like i need to go buy a 10mm hex for my socket wrench and see how this starter gets removed. crud.

found that the vacuum line to the tranny was disconnected down there. maybe that's why she continued to run after shutoff?

the sound when running was a sort of "knock" that seemed to occur only at ide. the injectors were just stored sittin' in a box...didn't even occur to me that the residual diesel might gum 'em up. they were pretty darned near new injectors, too. what now? a can of diesel injector cleaner"
