My jack got a low review rating too, but I think most people don't know how to properly bleed a jack. Quite a few of the bad reviews I read described symptoms of air in the hydraulic fluid.
You need to bleed them once you take it out of the box. I bled a bit of air from mine right after I bought it and it's been GREAT ever since.
