Sem color-coat has worked great for me, I have probably bought and used around 50cans of the stuff in several car and motorcoach interiors.
For vinyl, I find that using 3M "general purpose adheasive remover" as a prep and cleaner, it opens the pores of the vinyl and makes it accept the color-coat well. After drying/curing, the color-coat is as durable as the vinyl beneath it.
