Clinton's people trashed the White House? I had heard about this, but the General Services Adminsitration, who's job it is to take care of Federal buildings, says it never took place.

The cost to redo the White House after Clinton left, according to the GSA, was about $150,000. That included drapes, carpets, worn furniture, etc.

Read the beginning article of this thread with a close eye and look for the facts. There is a lot of opinion, but the facts are few and those that are are , in my opinion, are of little importance.

As for Brokaw's assertion that this was like the Velvet Revolution; a friend of mine was there for that and I asked him to compare the two. He said the first few hours (in his opinion) were like the inauguration, but the Velvet Revolution died out pretty quick when the Russian tanks showed up. Hopefully this adminsitration will last longer than a few days.

I saw the entire inauguration broadcast, and people did boo Bush. Out of the perhaps 1.5 million people there it sounded like a hundred or so were booing.

I also saw John McCain's concession speech, and the boo's there, when McCain said something nice about Obama, were loud and long and by almost everyone there. McCain had to tell the crowd to calm down. Even Palin was booing.

I have not heard any Dr. Strangelove jokes about Cheney, but I did think his back must have really been torn-up for him to be in the wheelchair that day. Hopefully he will get well soon. I also hope his wife is not scolding him for trying to do so much. (Now, Dick, you know at your age you should not be trying to move those books, why....)
