There may be a balance knob installed near the lighter. It has a pictogram of a speaker and R/L arrows. If you have this then your car had the stereo model. A cassette was available, too. Agreed. My 73 450SL has the original pinstriped Becker Europa II stereo.
The black faced radios did not get installed until the mid to late seventies, the electronic ones were after that, probably 81 or 82 at the earliest.
