The easiest way to tell if its bad is if your acceleration is a bit slow off the line. Or acceleration in general is a bit poor down low but the car is quick up high.

Its a common problem and there are 2 fixes.

The cheap way is to replace the MB pump with the Ford lighting pump. Its the same bosch unit just with a ford price tag.

You can find them on ebay or online suppliers for under $100 shipped.

The bit more expensive but beneficial way is to upgrade to a johnson pump as mentioned. I believe letmotorsports has them for $175, benefit is a higher flowing pump compared to the oem bosch unit.
