Their influence is not gone, was quite recent in our past when in full power, and Cheney has shown that he has no intention to give up his lust for power.

You miss my point: if we cannot even burrow 20 miles downward, why do you expect that we'll be able to mine minerals on other planets or asteroids?

Oh yeah, with our current economy, let's redouble our space station on Mars project. Just what we need.

Important thinkers in our nation's history are of benefit to us, along with their utterances. But you don't get that.
If Obama cannot even do something simple like removing those people Bush and Cheney could put in, he can't be much of anything, can he?

How long do you intend to keep milking that? 50 years from now, will you still be claiming that?

I don't think it is so much that we cannot. I think we can but unless there is something that they think is going to be different or unique, I am not sure there is going to be the interest.

They don't cut off the social fluff because of the economy, do they?

Perhaps so but if there is a point, I could care less whether you said it, Joe said it or anyone said it. The point is still good. Just because someone famous said it doesn't mean all that much to me.
